Basin School Trip to Yellowstone

The week before school let out for the summer Mickenzie and I went on the yearly Basin School Trip. This is an overnight trip, and this year they chose to go to Yellowstone Nat. Park. We got to ride on a very nice charter bus, with comfy seats and TV's (although they never could get the DVD player to work right). We stopped at Quake Lake and went to the visitor's center there. We went to the Bear and Wolf Center, it was neat to get to see these animals up close, then we headed into the park. We watched Old Faithful go off and walked around a bit, then headed off to Island Park where we stayed in a bunk house and had a great hot dog roast. Up early the next morning and back to the park for some site seeing and hiking (where I got a very rude wake up call pertaining to how out of shape I am!) up to Mystic Falls. We got to see lots of buffalo and elk but no bears in the park. We headed home in the afternoon, stopping in Livingston for dinner. It was great to spend two whole days with Kenzie doing something really fun (well except for the hike,maybe...) and Grandma came and stayed with Seth. I did have some moments where I caught myself looking around for him though! It was very strange to have time with just one of the girls. Kenz and I had a blast and I can't wait to take all of the kids to Yellowstone (yeah, I know, we LIVE in Montana and we've never taken them....sad!) But I am going to get some walking in before I go again!

School's Out....for the kids

June 3rd was a day of mixed emotions, the begining of summer, the end of Mickenzie attending Basin School. We are so sad that her wonderful time there is over, but we are also so grateful for the wonderful two years she was able to spend there. Thanks to two of the best teachers ever, Ms. E and Ms. U. We will miss you!

Skiing!

Kenzie was able to go skiing three times this year with her school. She is getting to be a great at skiing! We drove up to Discovery and watched her from the lodge. She can go down the green hill now. Seth thought he might want to try skiing too! We had fun in the snow and watching all the kids ski down the hill.

Baby Chicks!

It's that time of year again! Murdocks has their baby chicks in and Seth just couldn't wait to bring some home. It's a good thing we already have chickens and a brooder for chicks because we weren't getting out of that store without some! The funny thing is because of problems with the hatchery the store is having a hard time getting the breeds they want, so they told the hatchery to send whatever they could. Well....they got three tubs full of banty chickens. Not what everyone is looking for, so when we got home we had four extra chicks in our box! The guy that helped us must REALLY want to get rid of those banty chicks! It's okay, they will be fun and Seth will like the little chickens! Now his sisters are trying to talk him into asking for lambs and baby goats to raise. NO WAY!

Twilight

Well, we finally got to see Twilight, the movie. After waiting all year, was it worth it? Well depends on who you ask.... Chantel never read the book and thought the movie was awesome. Shaelie and I had read it, (nine times for me), and we thought it left a lot to be desired, as far as matching the book, or being as good as the book. Sorry, but Rob Pattenson, just isn't MY Edward. Mickenzie is just now reading the book, she thought it was pretty good. Will I buy it when it comes out? Hmm. probably, but I won't make the mistake of re-reading the book right before I watch it again. :) It was a blast to pre purchase tickets and stand in a huge line, waiting to get into the theater though. I've never done that before. It was fun to go with my girls and Kadie to share a night out while Shawn and Seth spent the evening with Mike and the boys. Seth had a blast playing with Reed, it's all he's talked about today. I just wonder how Kadie's house faired??? The girls all wanted to go back and see it again tonight, but all the shows are sold out for the weekend. I do love the Twilght saga...and I will most likely go to all the movies, but they will never be as good as the books. I really hope the next three movies follow the books more closely. It would be SO much better. But it was FUN! FUN! FUN!

P.S. The girls and Seth and I went back to see Twilight again, right before it went out of the theater. I have to say the second time around I really loved it. There wasn't the expectation of having it be just like the book and I could just enjoy the movie. Seth even like the parts he was awake for (yes, we went in the afternoon, so I knew he would nap for part of it.) We are all looking forward to New Moon and having another crazy night out with the girls!

Happy Halloween!

We had a great Halloween, it was actually warm (for Montana, that means above zero) Of course Shaelie dressed as a snowboarder to stay warm this year and she was too hot. Seth was the cutest lion, thanks to a shopping trip to Goodwill at the last moment, and everyone loved his costume. He had a blast, once we got past the temper tantrum of getting the costume on and getting out the door. Mickenzie was a Greek goddess, and Chantel opted for going as a corpse bride. It was fun to take all of them Trick-or-Treating, we started about 6:00 pm at the church Trunk-or-Treat, and then took off around Boulder, they didn't stop until about 8:50 pm. They wanted to keep going, but I would hate people to still be knocking on my door that late! It is so fun to watch them running from house to house. I really think these girls are a little old to still be doing the trick or treat thing, but we have so much fun watching them, it's hard to tell them they can't go. I suppose I'll let them do it as long as they want to. They all grow up too fast anyway. :)
